The first book in The First Law trilogy was brilliantly written and thoroughly enjoyable, however it is fair to say that not a lot happened. Last Argument of Kings is the third and concluding volume of The First Law Trilogy, following on from The Blade Itself (reviewed here) and Before They Are Hanged (reviewed here). This is an odd trilogy for me There are two more books set in the First Law universe with another coming. Joe Abercrombie's first novel, "The Blade Itself," is the first in his "The First Law" trilogy. I find the titles all fresh and intriguing, if a little confusing. US publication The First Law trilogy consists of "The Blade Itself," "Before They are Hanged," and "The Last Argument of Kings." In my next White Calico Water Cats #3: Chloe gets an assist. The Blade Itself, the first book of The First Law trilogy, was published in 2005, with the sequels, Before They Are Hanged and Last Argument of Kings, following in 2007 and 2008. Start at the beginning with the First Law trilogy, consisting of The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged, and The Last Argument of Kings - an absolutely brilliant series that turns a whole heap of fantasy tropes on their head, and features some of the most downright loathesome characters you are likely to have come across. I recently completed The FIrst Law trilogy and wanted to share some of my thoughts on it. My favorite character was Sand dan Glokta, formerly a dashing and successful young officer who was captured and spent two years being tortured in a dungeon. The First Law consists of The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged, and Last Argument of Kings. The same can be said about Before They Were Hanged. And now for book 2 of Joe Abercrombie's wonderful First Law Trilogy.
